Texting God

Do you text God? I do. I send him little 140-character-sized prayers throughout my day as things come up. Usually something like the following:

  • “thx for the food.”
  • “come quick. tired of all the drama.”
  • “plz forgive my sins. sry.”
  • “help me be a witness to my friend right now. ill open my mouth, just put the words there.”

Now we all know God’s got the best plan out there… more bars in ALL places. He’ll receive all those little text-prayers.

But putting cheesy metaphors aside for a moment, he’s the creator of the universe. He wants us to come before him with reverence and worship. When the Bible gives account of someone in the presence of God, it usually says that the person was “greatly afraid.” In Revelation, we have an account of what it’s like to approach the throne of God, and it’s scary! There is lightning everywhere, and weird creatures, and a sea, and all kinds of crazy stuff.

Keep prayer in perspective. It’s amazing that we can connect with almighty God at any moment, but it’s not a privilege we should take lightly. Make sure that you set aside time to connect with God daily, and then feel free to “text” him throughout your day.

Loved this! I think I just might 'text' God everyday!

I think this is a great reminder that while we can get wrapped up in texting, tweeting, and facebooking we're missing out on valuable time we could be talking (texting) God. Thanks for the thought Ryan! I'm blessed to have you on the team!

Brian – here is a great resource for using texting God as a part of your youth group or I’ve been using it as a part of speaking events to invite anonymous prayer. http://www.ymtoday.com/articles/article.php?aid=2017

Thanks for the link I’ll check it out further. I could see how it would be a good tool as a speaker.
